Welcoming players from absolute beginners to advanced students and professionals, Alec brings a thoughtful, nuanced approach to teaching—with an understanding that there’s a limitless expanse of discovery beyond where to place your fingers.

With 23 years of performance and practice experience, 7 years of dedicated teaching, and multiple international competition wins, Alec offers students a grounded, effective path to musical growth. He holds a Bachelor of Music from The Curtis Institute of Music and a Master of Music from The San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

Alec’s teaching focuses on:

• Building a fluid, efficient, and healthy technique—laying the groundwork for a lifetime of playing with ease and control.
• Demystifying improvement—using a thoughtful, conscious approach to problem solving while also learning to trust intuition and sensory awareness.
• Understanding the language of music—how to listen more purposefully, think more musically, and play with authentic expression.
• Developing a personal connection to music—exploring what it means to interpret, to create, and to listen to your own musical instincts.

Lessons are tailored to each individual, with a balance of structure, exploration, and open dialogue. After each lesson, Alec sends a personalized email or video summary (called the Post Lesson Review) that recaps what was covered and outlines what to focus on in the coming week—providing a clear, thoughtful roadmap for continued progress between lessons.
